Xubuntu- unable to eject external hard drive safely
When I eject usb stick (from Thunar) there's no problem
On the other hand when I eject external hard drive, the drive's power gets off and the icon disappears from Thunar and desktop(that is normal so far) But!! soon that drive appears again and is turned on. This is only happening on external hard drive |
When you say "it appears again and is turned on." do you just mean that the icon appears allowing you to mount it and the drive spins up? If so then I think it's pretty normal though I've not investigated the cause. As far as I am aware long as the drive was "safely removed" you're fine to unplug it from the machine and any power supplies if it has one. The OS won't be writing to the disk if it's not mounted and once the power is pulled hard drive heads automatically "park" to a safe location nowadays.

Yes that's what I mean. But what I'm worried about is spinning of the drive doesn't stop and LED doesn't turned off.
When I plugged off the cable of the drive, spinning stops roughly. I don't know whether it's really safe or not In Slackware Xfce when I eject the drive spinning stops smoothly and LED also turned off. |
I also tried Lubuntu, there isnt even eject option on the file manager umm...

If you're really worried about it powering down you could always use hdparm as suggested here:
http://www.howtoeverything.net/linux...in-down-hdparm I don't work about pulling the power of modern hard drives as long as I can keep them still due to the auto head park I mentioned above. I can understand though why you might. |
Thanx I'll try
