Xubuntu died - will not boot - SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)

Guys I am very new to Linux, and love it... But my computer now has decided not to boot - it also will not boot puppy linux now...

When trying to boot it says:

GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3

then gives some options to either boot or boot with recovery mode, either of those options lead to it saying:

[2.118792] ata3: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)

Any help will be much appreciated friends!

To rule out an hardware error I would recommend to test the harddisk with its manufacturer's diagnosis tool.
