Xubuntu 14.04 dual boot on Windows 8.1

I was wondering if someone can help me with my dual boot configuration. I followed the excellent instructions here: http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/d...-8-ubuntu.html

However I am only able to access the installed Xubuntu partitions by using a system rescue disk, option 5. I ran bootinfoscript and have included the output below. Also, I chose to install the 32-bit version of Xubuntu, I am not sure if this makes a difference. Here is my output for fdisk -l
Code:

As I see, you want to install the bootloader in the MBR of the boot disk.
To boot Ubuntu (better 64 Bit version, if your CPU can handle this), you have to select the MBR of the boot disk in the bios boot menu, opposed to Win 8.1, which boots the VFAT (UEFI) boot partition.

Mixing a UEFI/GPT install with the old MBR type install almost always leads to this problem. You need to install both with the same method. Either install Grub to the MBR with the BIOS boot partition or install both UEFI with an EFI partition. You have both the BIOS boot partition and an efi partition but only an efi file for one system.

I see you have Grub Legacy which has not been the default bootloader for Ubuntu for several years??

Yancek and Keruskerfuerst, thank you for your assistance. This UEFI stuff has kicked my tail for over a year now, and I confess to not totally understanding it. You are right, it was installing Linux as MBR/BIOS. I spent most of yesterday troubleshooting this and was finally able to install Xubuntu 14.04, 64bit version. A couple of observations:

32 bit version loaded as BIOS, hence the legacy version of grub.
Erased the 32 bit version, loaded the 64 bit version, which also loaded as BIOS.
note these first two loads were done with CSM enabled;
Disabled CSM, then the computer would not recognize the DVD.
Enabled CSM, then rebooted with my external hard drive plugged in, then my UEFI firmware was able to give the option of booting from a CD/DVD player in either UEFI mode, or BIOS mode.
I was able to select install in UEFI mode, overwrote the linux partitions, and now I have a dual boot system. Mysterious to me.
