Xubunto aim install

yeah i got my old computer hooked up with Xubunto and it is probably running better than it has ever run in it's life...
i was trying to install aim or Gaim now known as pidgin onto it and it said i had to open the command root and type some stuff in...
does anyone mind helping me figure that out??

Hi LeeeMcLeod, If apt doesn't have it, you could check here. If you must compile something from source there is a good guide here. I'd advise using packages and the package management system for your particular distro as compiling from source can send you to "dependency hell".

Cool its synaptic

under your applications tab click system then synaptic.
when that opens search for pidigin or amsn or gaim or whatever program you want really. it'll do every thing for you

When I used Xubuntu pidgin came installed by default
