xterm xt: cant open display - Error - Request solution
Hi friends,
I have two computers at home. On one, I have installed Solaris 9 for X86 and on the other I have RedHat 9 Linux. I have networked them and so I can telnet from one machine to other.
However, I have one major issue. When I telnet from Solaris machine to linux box and issue the command 'xterm', I get an error 'xterm xt: Cannot open display'. But I dont get this problem when I do SSH. Also, this problem is not seen when I telnet from linux to Solaris and issue 'xterm'. How do I solve this issue? How do I get the 'xterm' to be displayed on the solaris box, when I telnet from Solaris to Linux and issue the command 'xterm'.
From the net, I found that if the environment variable DISPLAY is not set properly, this could cause the problem. But, I have made sure that I have set my DISPLAY variable properly. I have set the DISPLAY to address of solaris box (followed by 0:0).

Since, I have to use 'telnet' for various reasons, I am eager to know the solution to this problem.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure you can forward X serssions over telnet. Try using ssh with the -X options. It should set all the $DISPLAY stuff up automatically.

the remote session protocol doesn't actually matter here, as long as the DISPLAY variable is set, that's where the x client will try to connect.
