.xsession-errors growing wildly
When I work with Mdk10 for an extended time, the file ~/.xsession-errors grows rather a lot, after working for about an hour, I found it had taken up all 8GB of my home directory.
Is there a way to disable or limit the size of this file? |
what all 8 gb of ur disk??????
wierd .. can u post an excerpt of the file ... [ i mean the most repetitive error] I think u might have a runaway process on ur comp.. do ---> #top to see which process is the most active ... which i am guessing to be X ... but other than that... |
When I rebooted my computer from Windows to Linux, the file was overwritten, and is now 4.8 K, but the line which occurs most often, after running for a short time in clusters of up to 10 lines, is
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". this accounts for approximately half of the size of the file. |
I think u have a problem with ur nvidia video card drivers...
If u installed them ... did it report errors during installation??? In ur /etc/X11/ directory u should see a file something like XF86Config which is the configuration file for ur Xserver If u cant find it do ---> #locate XF86 PLEASE BACKUP UR FILE AND THEN EDIT IT.... In the Module section (of the XF86Config) , make sure you have: Load "glx" You should also remove the following lines: Load "dri" Load "GLcore" restart your comp or ur Xserver.. See it the errors still persist.. if they do .... Uninstall any Nvidia drivers u have and install them again... Best of Luck.... |
Tuxpect, could you please not use SMSish?
It's disgusting, and it makes people less familiar with English believe that your gibberish is correct. Thanks, Tink |

>If u installed them ... did it report errors during installation??? I did not install any additional things other than the Linux program, but I had problems, and had to install just "configuration" and "KDE". I then installed the rest of the packages. >In ur /etc/X11/ directory u should see a file something like XF86Config >which is the configuration file for ur Xserver >If u cant find it do ---> #locate XF86 > >PLEASE BACKUP UR FILE AND THEN EDIT IT.... > >In the Module section (of the XF86Config) , make sure you have: >Load "glx" >You should also remove the following lines: >Load "dri" >Load "GLcore" I don't know if this is an important clue to the problem, but the XF86Config file was empty initially >restart your comp or ur Xserver.. > >See it the errors still persist.. if they do .... Uninstall any Nvidia >drivers u have and install them again... > > >Best of Luck.... I did this, and all of the errors stayed, I do not know how to uninstall the drivers, is this through the RPM Manager? If so, what is the name of the package I must remove? In case it is of help, here is a larger extract of the .xsession-errors file, it continues by repeating errors which occur here mostly, I had ran Kwrite, KTerminal, su and vi to make the above modifications to XF86Config startkde: Starting up...
