XServer crash - Fedora Core 1

I recently installed fedora core 1, and was trying out the hotkey to switch workspaces. I had been told that this hotkey was ctrl-alt-f#(1-4 for the different workspaces). Well, when I hit this key xserver shut down and I was left with a full-screen terminal. I was unable to restart xserver, and when I rebooted it gave me the error that it could not move the logfile /var/log/XFree86.0.log.old.

I'm not terribly concerned with why this happened at the moment, I just want to see if there's a way I can fix xserver without re-installing linux.

thanks.

what you did was change to a virtual console, a full screen text based terminal, i have no clue why X will not start now on boot, but this is what you did

if this happens again, the X server is on
ctrl+alt+f7

i believe the hotkey is ctrl+alt+left or right, or up or down

if not, try ctrl alt 1,2,3,4
