That's not the exact error message but here's the problem, I can Remote Desktop my Debian PC and login however after that I don't get a GUI but rather an error saying that It can't load up the GUI because it was not found. I made a .xsession file in my directory and I've tried "gnome-classic" classic-gnome" "gnome-2d" and "gnome-session-fallback" and none of them have worked, I am using Debian 7 Wheezy which comes with GNOME 3.8 I think.
I am on a Windows 7 PC trying to Remote Desktop into Debian 7. I don't know what protocol I'm using, I'm just using XRDP with default settings.
I have a similar thread around here somewhere that we developed a consensus that the Microsoft side (Win 7) simply was not up to handling the complexity of Gnome 3. I have installed the xfce desktop and removed the Gnome desktop. I also installed the xrdp process and did the update, upgrade functions. The error I get when I try to logon from the windows side does appear to be coming from the Lenix side but no connect. In both cases installing UltraVNC on both sides does work but is a bit slower than I expected. I have no idea how I managed to lose the thread I posted...
If you are asking me, I have not given up yet, just chasing other things for a while...
I have not found anything anywhere that says Wheezy, xrdp and Win7 Remote Desktop won't work.
John
FWIW: Debian 7/ Gnome Classic Desktop, I choose this combination to learn Linux so that I would be better prepared to work with Raspberry Wheezy.
Here is the report ...
Project:
Debian 7.0.0 i386
Net Install
{curly braces are comments}
{whenever asked, choose classic Gnome}
Parameters:
Debian Desk
Print service
SSH
Standard System Utilities
visudo: john ALL=(ALL:ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL
ssh -X {I don't think this neccessary}
{UltraVNC would log in from Win 7, but no sound and required host permission}
Install xrdp
{Now Win7 Remote Desktop works including sound. No indication on the Host}
{a 20G drive was used and indicated 14G free at this point}
