Xrandr Problem

Distro is Debian Lenny.
Computer is Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro v3205 laptop.

My VGA is a 1680*1050 23" external monitor and i can only use 1280*800 of it.

How can i use 1680*1050 ?

Do you want to use all of them, and in what layout?

I have one monitor at laptop 1280*800 (original lcd of laptop)
I have one external monitor 1680*1050(23")

I do not have any other monitor.

But xrandr shows these three .
I only want to use VGA one but with 1680*1050 resolution not 1280*800.

How can i use it at 1680*1050?

I can't help until I know how each monitor you want is named.

So you're saying that one of the monitors you want is the one called "VGA", what are the others?

VGA - External Monitor (23" 1680*1050 orginal resolution)
LVDS - Notebooks LCD (12.1" 1280*800 orginal resolution)
TMDS - I do not know what does it mean but it is seen above as output of xrandr.

I want to have 1680*1050 resolution at VGA (external monitor). How can i do it?

Will you only use VGA or do you want a dual-monitor setup with VGA and LVDS (that is, the desktop spanning two monitors)?

If you want dual, then what should be the main monitor and what will be their layout?

I only want VGA (external) with 1680*1050 .
Else does not matter. Others can be closed.

EDIT: also post the output of the command lspci | grep VGA

If you don't know either of the two above questions and didn't install any video drivers, the output of the command in my previous post should be enough to continue.

lspci | grep VGA result is

My VGA controller is Intel Mobile 945GM, i tried to dload its drivers from intellinuxgraphics.org,
but i was not able to compile and install them.

I always had problems.
I use debian lenny

Maybe the reason for the problem is that there is no driver.

But let's try this first:

Run this command as root:

mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup

If it complains that the file doesn't exist, that's OK.

Save the code below as "/etc/X11/xorg.conf":

Now log out and back in.

If it still isn't right, run this command (as a normal user now):

xrandr --output VGA --auto

If it still isn't right, run this:

xrandr --output VGA --mode 1680x1050

i created a new xorg.conf as you said.
rebooted.

Computer screen opened the LCD (1280*800) monitor of laptop.
External monitor (1680*1050) was blank.

but only half of the LCD screen was seen to me other half was not seen.
so i couldnot able to open terminal to run your xrandr commands.

Then i rebooted from console and deleted that xorg,
and rebooted again.
What shall i do now?

Do you have a file called .xinitrc in your home folder?

i checked both roots home and my home
there is no file such as .xinitrc

on my 64bit debian lenny I have an xinitrc found at: /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc but it only contains one line. Here is the full contents:
