Xorg in Ubuntu using 85% of my processor?

Hey,

You read correctly. Ubuntu is using 85% of my CPU's resources, I find that hard to believe because I have a middle class video card in there. That being a ATI Radeon 9250 graphics card. It does run much slower, as you can imagine. Does anyone have any suggestions how to reduce this? Am I right in thinking that it's not properly utilizing my GPU?

Any help is much appreciated,

Brandon

are you running xgl or anything like super fancy or super beta?

Robert Diggs 01-31-2007 10:24 AM

Hey,

NOt sure if I'm running XGL. When Ubuntu installed, it really didn't give me any choice as far as packages go. It just went and did it's thing. The distro can in a Linux magainze I picked up. So, I don't think it's super fancy or super bata.

Thanks,

Brandon

Which bit of Ubuntu is using 85%? Does "top" give any clues as to which process is the hog?

Robert Diggs 01-31-2007 11:38 AM

Hey,

Xorg is the process using 85% of my CPU, as the title of the thread states. I did not use 'top', however I am familiar with that process. I was feeling out Ubuntu and it turns out that it has a task manager similar to Windows' task manager. NOt sure of what the actual name of it is right now, but we'll call it a task manager. That said that Xorg was using 85% of my CPU.

Regards,

Brandon
