edit: This can be deleted/closed. After running
Code:
aticonfig --initial
the last time I installed fglrx-amdcccle, rebooted, and all is well.

My AMD Catalyst driver was working fine. I switched to an Nvidia GPU for awhile and left fglrx installed, no issues after installing Nvidia drivers. I put my AMD card back in and ran
Code:
aticonfig --initial
to generate xorg.conf and xserver crashes when I try to start it. Ok...
Code:
dpkg -r fglrx fglrx-core
apt-get updte
apt-get upgrade -f
Then reinstall the newest AMD driver built for Ubuntu 14.04..
Code:
# fglrxinfo
display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.6, 256 bits)
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (3.0 Mesa 10.6.3)
Great, it recognizes the card, but when I generate xorg.conf all hell breaks loose and it breaks the xserver and I have to start all over.
