XMMS Player doesn't work anymore
 

Once I had got this good looking and quite well working winamp like player called xmms. After a while this suddenly stopped to play at a random music track. I thought this was been frozen then I closed it and tried to open it again by double clicking to an other music track. Then for short second the window mark appeared on the taskbar and immediatelly has gone. I was asking for linux forums how to fix that out, one of their memeber said try type xmms into the console and copy there what does it say. It said it has segmentation fault. Today I tried to call that message here on terminal again but after a distribution upgrade that doesn't came to my screen too. :D

Any suggestions are welcomed, but remember I'm a really n00b to use terminal, so as it could be possible try to give a suggestion step by step. Thank you!

BTW what I'm currently using: Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft

Have you tried reinstalling XMMS via synaptic? That may clear up the problem with little effort.

Tried it plenty times ;3 But didn't worked =(

Did you do a complete removal first and then reinstall it?

I had some things go weird on me when I tried the upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 also. I just went ahead and saved my data and did a clean install of the newest version. I am not saying you have to do that but I have noticed other comments in the Ubuntu forums mentioning that sometimes the upgrade doesn't work quite right.

Well actually I was just upgrade my system from 6.06.1 to 6.10. I doesn't heard so good words about the 7.04, so I'd keep this 6.10 as long it's possible.
I think the complete clean reinstallation would be okay but I believe that linuxes is much more modular to fix each stuffs than do what dear windowses recomend ^^

I've been visited the bugzilla site what is dealing with xmms bugs but seems like that site is refreshed last time at 2004 or so, but I think that site is just a dust keeper today. *shrug*

XMMS has been an abandoned project for a few years. I guess it would be better if you checked out its successor, XMMS2; if it's not available from Synaptic, you should be able to find it on the internet.

Thanks ;3 But if you are there now, please tell me how can I install tar.gz, or tar.bz2? Step by step, and with an example if it possible please.
