xmms not working like readme

um... well im trying to make the transition into the shiney bright world of gui but i have hit a snag. I can play audio cd's just fine with cdplay and workbone but xmms doesn't seem to like what i'm doing. I read the xmms readme at their site and set up the CD Audio Player plugin to the Device: /dev/cdrom Directory: /cdrom/ I'm using debian and i have read some other posts talking about xmms being a bit tempermental. Oh ya fstab is the same and i can mount data cd's just fine. Well i guess thats all the info i have. Any info would be much apprieciated

Do the tracks show up in the list or is it blank? When I navigate to my CDROM in xmms, nothing shows up until I select 'Add all files in the directory', then it appears to read and I can then add. I use kscd cause of it's panel dock feature and it is really much easier to use an xmms for CDs.

ya nothing shows up when i look into /cdrom. i tried what you did but still nothing showed up. hmmm... you seem to say the same thing that everyone seems to be saying. xmms is flakey with cd's. I run fluxbox as a window manager so i don't know kscd will work as a dock app. I guess i'll go find out. thanks

Yeah, I don't see the perk in using xmms because the sound enhancing plugins don't work on CDs (someone correct me if I am wrong or where it is cause I would love to have expanded stereo on CDs as well as oggs). There are a ton of CD players for Linux though, find the one that you like the best.

My favorite place these days....
