XMMS - I have plugin, still no CD audio

Ok, this is really getting to me. I've downloaded and installed the Audio CD Reader plugin for XMMS. I have tried every single combination of this plugin and no joy. When I select either 'Read Digital CD Audio' or 'Play Audio CD Directly' and apply the changes when I click play it cycles through the tracks really fast and no sound is produced.

When I enable CD Audio Player (a seperate plugin that comes with XMMS) this does not happen and the track time elapses like it is playing and still no sound is produced. The instructions I read specified this must be disabled however.

Please can someone help.

Cheers

Is it possible that it is pointing to the wrong device? Compare the devices that both plugins refer to.
