xlock and passwords

Newbie question: I'm trying to figure out how to get xlock working (i'm running rh9 and icewm). When i'm root, xlock works fine, but when i'm any other user, xlock doens't recognise my password. I'm suspecting that it's because xlock isn't `setuitd to root' but i can't really figure out how i should go about `setuid-ing' something to root. Could someone quickly explain how to do this. Or could there be any other reason for the password failure?

I think the problem is running without setuid for xlock, altough I always run with setuid.
Maybe this discussion on setuid would help:

Basically the comand for setuid are:

chmod u+s - set the setuid bit.

ran on executable file ( xlock ).
