XIO: fatal IO error 104. X server would not start after problem with Vmware

I was happily using win2k as a guest OS on Redhat 7.3 Linux 2.4.18-3 (i used VMware 4.5 to boot win2k) until i decided to press to get full screen and an error message on saying i need to clear off disk space on 'tmp' folder and win2k hanged. I tried clearing 'tmp' and even rebooting vmware but the same error message as above appeared.

So, i rebooted RH linux and i have this error message;

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 unknown processed) with 0 events remaining.

Typing vmware at prompt gives "could not start display" error message.

Could somebody help?

Thanks.
