ah, ok, looks like you havent configured the xfree86 thingy, i think

type
Code:
xf86config
and answer the questions, youll need to know the verticle and horizontle refresh rates (the monitor manual can suply these, if ya dont know then take a good quess (be carful, its better to guess lower then higher as it might hurt your monitor to guess to high numbers)

Do you have your Nvidia drivers properly inserted into the kernel? In other words, do you get anything if you do "/sbin/lsmod | grep -i nvidia" from the command prompt? If not, try "modprobe nvidia" as root and see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't post the text of /var/log/XFree86.0.log or /var/log/Xorg.0.log (whichever is appropriate for your system).

Hi there,

I'm a complete beginner with linux and struggling with a lot of things. I've been having the same problems after installing the nvidia drivers, 104 errors, kdm not working, can't start x etc etc yet it's fine when I change 'nvidia' back to 'nv' in xf86config-4.

Reading another post I saw someone mentioning disabling glx in the xf86 file, so I commented it out, changed 'nv' back 'nvidia' and now Kanotix boots to gui and seems to be working ok. I hope this helps. As I said, I'm a total noob with linux, so if this is bad advice I'll apologise in advance

Now I need to find out why I can't go above 800x600 on my 17inch monitor !!

First , sorry for my English, :P ,
i had the same error, and someone can help me?
i use Debian+xfce4+xserver-xorg, when i config my "compiz", and run it under xfce4 gnome-terminal, my screen blank soon, and keyboard be locked. ctrl+alt+f(n) not work. ssh from a windows machine, logon as root, reboot the system, when i run startxfce4,get this error. if i do it like "ldin", change the code "nvidia" to "nv" in the xorg.conf,i can start x-windows, i had installed the correct nvidia driver.

So, i need help!

thanks very much.
