Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Hey,
I run Slack 9.0 in runlevel 3 ---- and I am having a problem.
Everything in my .xinitrc file seems to run twice on startup. One instance of most of them close after startup is complete, however some dont.
Eg- here's my Flux .xinitrc
LinNeighborhood &
xset b off &
wmdrawer &
wmmaiload &
asmon &
fluxter -w &
exec fluxbox
when I startx two instances of all those programs open. Then they all close except fluxter. So I wind up with two instances of fluxter open in my slit.
Same with xfce, except that I wind up with two panels. I can't kill any of them since X shuts down.
Also, the exit commands of the WM's don't work properly. If I use it all the window borders disappear, but the programs remain open.....(all those slit/dock/wharf dockapps!!!). Have to use Ctrl-Alt-Backspace each time to get out.
Everything starts fine and shuts down fine in runlevel 4. However, I don't like to go directly into X.
Hope you guys can help....I've looked around and noone seems to have had this problem.
