xinit : Server error
 

Have Centos 5.2 installed in text mode, wish to use a graphical interface so tried to run startx - results below. PATH does include /usr/bin and xinit exists there and X11 and Xorg show up using the locate command.

Could anyone shed some light on this please.

xinit: No suchfile or directory (errno 2): no server "X" in PATH

Use the -- option, or make sure that /usr/bin is in your path and that "X" is a program or link to the right type of server for your display. Possible server names include:

Xorg X.Org displays

xinit: Server error.

Do you have /usr/X11R6/bin in the PATH?
