Xine starts up when double clicking a subdirectory in Konqueror
hello everyone,
this is my very first post here, please bear with me.
I am a complete newbie with linux, I got Mandrake 10.1 installed by a friend 2 days ago, but still leaves me with dual boot. trying to get a hold of him is very hard.
anyway, I am trying to get to grips with linux.
My problem is, when I play around with Konqueror to get my bearings and to see what is about, everytime I double click on a subdirectory in Konqueror a program called Xine starts up.
to prevent this I have to right click subdirectories and open in new tab, can someone help me disable Xine from opening up when I double click a subdirectory?
I suspect that you haven't installed the mandrake updates yet: plain ordinary 10.1 Official had quite a few problems, but Mandrake released a load of updates that are really worth installing.
Search this site (LQ) for easy urpmi and follow the instructions. Once you have told your system where to look for the updates (and easy urpmi mostly does this for you) you need to issue the command urpmi --auto-select as root for the updates to be downloaded and installed. Things work a lot better after the updates. I hope you have a fast internet connection, it was about 300Gb for me (!)
You are associating the folders with Xine, Which is a media player. If you right click and open with konqueror there should be a "always use this program for this file type" option, or something close. You can also change associations thru KDE control center under KDE Componenets -> File Associations.
Also: If your still confused by Mandrake, update thru Mandrake Control Center -> Mandrake update. Much easier than thru a terminal (urpmi).
thanks for getting back to me, my freind who installed it, was chatting to me on the net, and I told him my probs.
he fixed it for me.
yes, the Xine program was associated with Konqueror, he changed that for me.
I had updated my system from Mandrake Control Centre, it was not that slow, but I do have a 2mb connection. it only took about all in 10 mins to update.
I hope you don't mind but I will need lots of help with linux, as I find it a lot harder than windows. but as my signature says I do want to learn it.
