Xine locks up my pc!

I loaded Mandrake 9 w00t on my laptop everything runs great but when i run xine it locks up my laptop. I downloaded the newest xine and when i do a ./configure it will not make a 'make' file for me. So i loged on as root and it still wont. does anyone know how to fix this problem?

don't use it. I had the same experience. Xine has been the ONLY program that has sucessfully caused my system to freeze

EDIT:

use XMMS for sound and Mplayer for videos.... seems to be the best combo (both from my experience and from what I've read)

come off it, how is anyone meant to be able to help you just by saying "it will not make a 'make' file"...? do you seriously think that that is a useful description of your problem?

i am sorry acid, i ran it again and says "configure: error: zlib needed" whats that anyway?
::edit::
Ok i got onto google and typed in zlib and found it was used for compression and i downloaded the newest version and compiled it onto my mandrake 9. It seems to have fixed the problem. I am sorry for wasting you guys time again. I should have researched this info first.

hey, i'm not trying to put you down or tell you off, honestly, but i really would have thought you'd have read your own error messages, the time you've been around on this site.
