Xine and VLC help

Hello,
I'm using Xine v. 0.9.23 and VLC player v. 0.8. I'm using Mandrake Linux 10. Whenever I open a new video file, a new xine window is opened. I have the same problem with VLC. Can I make it just like Windows Media Player so that every file gets opened in the same window?

How are you 'opening' files? That is probably the biggest portion of this that isn't being taken into account. You will probably need to edit the file manager's configurations for those media types to have them opened with a specific application and then to be opened in the same window (reused). I'm guessing you are using konqueror and are double clicking the file to open it. If so, edit konqueror's prefs as noted above.

Yes, I'm using Konqueror and I double click to open the files. Also, sometimes I open from Mozilla. How do I edit the relevant files to make it reuse the same window? I'm a linux newbie, so please don't get annoyed by my 'newbie' questions.
Explicit instructions are needed!
