i just recently installed suse 10.1 on a dell dimension 2400 intel pentium 4 2.6Ghz 514 MB ram and an nvidia geforce 5500 fx graphics card.
it took me forever to get xgl even working at all. just getting my nvidia card to work was hell.
i install the nvidia drivers and configure my xorg.conf file and finally got it to work... with a few bugs
i can't see the title bar on any windows and some of the icons get distorted. also i have 4 desktops running and the cube works but on the k-menu bar it only shows 1 desktop.
has anyone heard of these problems before and know a fix? i can give more specific info later if u need it.
Compiz does not work well on KDE as it does on GNOME. I personally had the same problems on openSUSE 10.1 using KDE, but things worked very well using GNOME. Beryl seems to play along nicely with KDE, so you may want to try it.
it does the same thing with gnome. some type of configuration must be messed up somewhere. i went through so much trouble just getting everything to work and changed things around so much that i'm having trouble backtracking and finding mistakes that i made. i'm going to go ahead and reinstall suse and try to get it right this time.... hopefully my plan will work
