Its an ask and resolve your own question but nevertheless I might be able to help others by posting it here.
I finally able to play mp3 by going into synaptic and install everything I found when I searched for libxine. Tho programs like gxine and xine gets into my multimedia menu I'm still happy that I was able to make it on my own. The question now is how do I get rid of applications that I know will not be of interest to me?
