xfce4 won't run programs
 

i just finished installing xfce4 on my other computer, and i thought it all went well...i can load up xfce, but when i try to run anything i get permission denied, and when i try and run the knosole, nothing happens

also, i don't know if this is related to the other problems, but when i try and minimise a window, it just makes it disapear as if i closed it

so, does anyone know what's going on?
