Transparency for what? The terminal, the panels, everything...?

What version of Xfce are you using?

Make sure you configure xfwm with composite support. You also need to be running an XServer that supports compositing (new Xorg w/ nvidia drivers, AIXGL, XGL), and the server must also be configured properly (see the countless XGL howto's for this.

And if you want transparent panels, you have to patch the xfce4-panel source and build it yourself. That only works with Xfce-4.4 though.

I've looked EVERYWHERE (almost) for how to make the panel transparent... I keep finding things about a file named "transparent" (which doesnt exist on my system)... here is a link: http://www.xfce.org/documentation/4....l-transparency. This confuses me though - where is <basedir> so I know where to add this file? And why doesnt my panel "by default" use the transparency which they speak of (unless I use Compiz/Beryl). This left with lots of questions, yet no leg to stand on...

Now I have a leg to stand on again. I'll give this patch a shot tonight to see if it works. I'll be back either with a success story or asking for more information.

Thanks!
