Xerces: upgrading version 1 to 2

How do I upgrade Xerces version 1 to 2. I do not even know the location of Xerces versio 1 on my server. Is it as simple as unpacking the tar file or there is more to it.

I need the version 2 to run a java based CMS called 'opencms' which requires version 2 and set up complains about not having it. By the way I got Tomact running OK and looks like I am set to install opencms if I can get the Xerces upgraded to version 2.

I will really appreciate a reply from a experienced member.

When you originally installed Xerces, how did you install it?

If it came with your distribution, the best way is to upgrade is to see if your distribution has the second version available in its package manager - then upgrading would be handled entirely by the distribution, and you wouldn't have to compile it yourself.

What distribution do you use? It seems your user info doesn't say.

Thanks for the reply. I am with a hosting company and I got a VPS account with RHEL (which version the company would not say) running. They refused to upgrade the Xerces and asked me to do it myself. I do not think I can run a 'uptodate' command in this VPS account. So essentially I am of my own. If I compile the upgraded version myself then which directory I untar and compile. I do not know where normally Xerces reside. Also if upgrade will there be any incompatiability with anything else? Also, please direct me to the site where from I can download Xerces with installation instruction.
