Xconfigurator, NIC

I am newbie, and have two problems installing RH 7.3 Linux:

1) Xconfigurator
- during install configured/ tested 1024x768 resolution - all Ok
- after restart no GUI, monitor (Sony Multiscan G420) reports input: 81.3 kHz/ 181Hz;
this input is beyond monitor's range (H: 30-110kHz, V:48-170Hz) which is configured and tested during initial install;
- trying different settings with Xconfigurator;
best got is 640x480, but this is not usable since only 1/4 of actual GUI screen is presented
- additional info:
all installed on Dell Latidude CPi notebook with Neomagic 128ZV/ZV+/XD (2160) 2MB video card;
in docking station same video card (i.e. Neomagic 2160/ 2MB)
- GUI in 16bit 1024x768 resolution is target
- is it the problem since basically OS can see 2 video cards (one in laptop in second in docking station?)
- suggestions/ tips?

2)NIC
- how to configure static IP address for NIC from BASH (due to problems with GUI/Xconfigurator "neat" is not an option)?
(since "ifconfig" is having no line/data for "inet addr: etc.")
- suggestions/ tips?

Regards

For the nic, you can always use setup or netconfig to configure your network..

Not sure about the X though. Did you mention it was working with 1024x748 ?? Try seeing if your laptop is mentioned on www.linux-laptop.net for info possibly.

Thanks.
For X, got it working on laptop, but no joy in docking station.
