I already have Ubuntu installed on /dev/sda1/ but i would like to install Windows 7 now on /dev/sdb2. My goal is to manually set boot priority in my BIOS to boot from either one. So my question is, by installing Windows 7 on sdb2 will i still be able to boot from sda1 if i select it as primary boot drive in BIOS, or will it still wipe my MBR and Grub2 on sda1?

windows will overwrite your master boot record without asking or notifying you that it is being done so that you will need to either re-install Grub bootloader or modify the windows 7 bootloader to boot Ubuntu.

I'm not sure if I understand your situation? You indicate Ubuntu is on sda1 and you want to install win 7 on sdb2? Are you installing win 7 on a second hard drive or a second partition of the same drive?

Sorry if i was not clear. I know it will erase the MBR if you install it on the same drive, i plan on installing it to a different drive (sdb2=2nd partition of 2nd drive). Doesn't each drive have its own MBR? I plan to do this by manually selecting which drive to boot from in my BIOS. Or will windows erase the MBR on all drives, even if i selected it to install to a different one?
