xanim missing file?

i've been testing out all the different features of gimp, and i found one i can't get working. it's the 'split video to frames using xanim' one. apparently my computer doesn't have the version it wants, so i went and downloaded the version it was looking for of the loki games site. i got the tar.gz version, and there seems to be a file missing from the tar.gz package, a file named quicktime.a . i found quicktime.c and quicktime.h, do i have to compile those a special way or something? or should i give up hopes of adding in little stickmen and subliminal messages into mpegs using gimp?

thanks,
rebelcan
