X-Windows won't work!

Hello,

When I try to start X-windows using startx I get an IO error.

The error reads:

Fatal server error:
no screens found

and

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

do i need to conifgure something for this to work?

thanks

It sounds like there is no XF86config file available. look in /etc/X11/XF86Config if there is nothing there, you will need to run /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config to set it up. If it is there, it sounds like it wasn't set up properly so running xf86config again won't hurt anything.

Before you run it though, it will help to know monitor sync rates and type of graphics card you have installed.
