X Windows not working on new install of SuSE 9.0 Pro

Friends, I need help.

I just installed SuSE 9.0 Professional on a brand new system (AMD Athlon 3.0GHz chip, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, ATI Radeon 9000 video card w/ 32MB RAM).

During the installation, the graphical display was working just fine. However, once I finished installing all the packages, the X Windows display doesn't work! I have run xf86config as root, and entered the proper parameters for my video card and monitor (IBM 9513 T55A 15"). I know that the HorizSync and VertRefresh information is correct; I've even used vi to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config to make sure.

When I attempt to run 'startx', the screen darkens, then my monitor's light flashes, similar to what happens when the refresh range is out of sync. I just don't know what to do with this thing, and I'm not sure exactly what log or error files might help anyone who'd be kind enough to help me...
