x-window-system troubles..

howdy,

I've seen this problem quite commonly around but I still unfortunatly haven't found a solution to it. So if anyone can help it would be great.

I decided i'd install Debian to my mum's 2nd partition for an experiment with x server and drivers and so. So I got it installed fine, setup lilo nicely and went to fire up x (startx). I get...

Code:

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/Xinit/Xserverrc : /usr/bin/X11/X  No Such File or Directory
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/Xinit/Xserverrc: exec: /usr/bin/X11/X Cannot Execute: No Such File or Directory

giving up

Xinit: no such file or directory (Errno 2) unable to connect to X server
Xinit: no such process (Errno 3) : Server error'

It seems this is quite a common problem (however at first I didn't realise this), so I did a reinstall and viola i'm back to where I was.. Although when I set it up this time round I choose the wrong video card or something cause i'm stuck at prompt screen with some text reading: no screens found.

Can someone point me in the right direction with this? I'd like you know where I can re select the video card and get past the first error.

Thanks.

I't would be useful if you would give more info on error... and hardwear...

Which version of Debian are you using?

yea sorry.. I'm using Debian 3r2. The video card is one of those default ones that comes with Acer packaged PCs. SiS chipset.
