X sever on Ubuntu problem.Nvidia maybe?

Hello i installed Ubuntu. The installation and starting up went well until it was loading the user screen. Then, it showed only orange lines and no user screen. I have an Nvidia Geforce 6800 and is that maybe the problem that caused this? Is the xorg thingy badly configured? Has anyone experienced this and know anything that might help me to log into my acount and enjoy linux?

Thnx in advance,
ichimeno

If you have a livecd you can boot and gain access to the internet, get this information: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/02...n-ubuntu-edgy/.

Then boot Ubuntu into runlevel 3 and follow the instructions (assuming you have internet working in runlevel 3).

The information pertains to the Nvidia Geforce 6800.

Additional to BRD's post, I also have an nvidia card and my system absolutely hates using the generic "nv" or "vesa" drivers. After an install, it's quite usual for me to have to install the nvidia driver immediately (my screen is usually set to 1600x1200) but with the nv/vesa drivers, I can only just read the screen if it's set to no higher than 800x600.

I expect, that as ever, the BRD has hit the nail on the head!
