Question X Server won't start!

I just installed Red Hat 9 on my laptop the other day, and cannot get the X Server (or X Window System) to start! I have a book called Red Hat 9 for Dummies and followed the instructions in that, as well as the instructions in www.redhat.com/support and still cannot get anywhere! Can someone please help me? I am pretty lost!
Thank you in advance.

My free advice is to either download or buy a CentOS cd. Red Hat 9
is very old and doesn't support a lot of the features of newer laptops.
CentOS is quite similar to Red Hat, so most of the things in the book
will still apply.

Where can I download that from? And will it recognize that my video card is being shared, since this is on a laptop?

Also, how do I install it once it is downloaded? Should I burn it to a CD and then boot the pc from the CD?

Hello,
imho, Fedora is the distro nearest RH, because it is sponsored by RH.

Take a look at this webpage: http://wiki.centos.org/Download

It has a lot of good info including links for downloading and other
links with helpful information.

If you're looking for something close to Red Hat then go for Fedora. The lastest version is 12. If you're looking for something more beginner friendly then try Ubuntu. Ubuntu has an awesome program where they will ship the installation cd to you free of charge.

Which Linux OS is the best and the most user friendly for newbies? Also, where can I download them from?
