X server problem...
 

Hi all,

My linux system (Redhat Enterprise Linux) was working properly before 2 days...But i dont know what miracle has happened...My system is not going in to the GUI...i got the error message that X server is unable to bring the GUI and hence it will shutdown it temporarily...

Is there any way to rectify the problem???if possible with out reinstalling the operating system or xfree86???

If you are using RHEL 3,

Did you changed your keyboard, mouse or moniter or monitor settings???
if it is or not.,
edit GRUB , boot to level 3(init 3)
then after login in tty
try
redhat-config-mouse
redhat-config-keyboard
redhat-config-monitor
redhat-config-xfree86(If it fails ), then try with default by redhat-config-xfree86 --noui

If you are using RHEL 4,
try this
system-config-keyboard
system-config-mouse
system-config-display

you can troubleshoot with options
system-config-display --help(rhel4)
redhat-config-xfee86 --help(rhel3)
