Question X server, fatal warning..... full report, what do I do?

Hello all,
Just gone through XF86config for the first time in an attempt to correct some problems on my computer, I tried "startx" and I got this....

FONT=courier new]Using authority file //.Xauthority
Writing authority file //.Xauthority
Using authority file //.Xauthority
Writing authority file //.Xauthority

X: warning; process set to priority -11 instead of requested priority -10

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again[/FONT]

I don't know how to remove that file, I know that the . signifies hidden but I don't know the command to remove it! I haven't restarted since doing the XF86config do I need to?

Doing this all out of Knoppix by the way.....

Any suggestions and help is much appreciated, Many thanks,

Lightbulb For anyone suffering from the same problem......

The solution is 1st all us n00b's need to go to www.ss64.com/bash/ and print this off it's a complete list of all the commands for linux.... BONUS!
2nd if you have the same problem as I did, in root directory type
