X server crash caused missing font

i'm running mandrake 9.1 with the XFree86-4.3.0 server. The X server crashed dropping me to the command line, however when i typed in startx, i got an error message saying that the "fixed" font was missing. is there any way to restore the "fixed font. i don't want to reinstall linux, as i have done this before to correct this problem.

don't worry...your fonts are intact.

what it means is that either you don't have font.dir,font.alias or you are referencing unexisiting fonts.

so make sure that you have all the listed fonts directories (check /etc/X11/XFreexxx file for font references).

if you have all the directories that are referenced from XFreexxx then make sure that each font-directory contains the font.dir and font.alias files.

if they are missing then use mkfontdir on each font directory.

that should fix your problem
