When i try to install nvidia drivers

on suse 9.2 x86_64 amd64 3200+ I got

ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before
installing. For further details, please see the section INSTALLING
THE NVIDIA DRIVER in the README available on the Linux driver
download page at www.nvidia.com.

so how do I open up the terminal without running an xserver???

You can use a couple of different ways. If you're not using a desktop manager you can simply crash your desktop with CTRL-ALT-BSP. You can also use a terminal and set the runlevel to 3 with
Code:
telinit 3
You can also type "ps -aux" in a terminal find the pid of the xserver and then use "kill pid" to kill the xserver. You'll be at the command line then.
