X question

Hey I have a question about starting X...
I have a really slow old computer and am booting at run level 3 (text mode) and I dont want to have to start up kde or gnome to run a gui like mozilla just X, because of how slow everything gets. I have tried running the command
X :1 mozilla
and different variations but nothing has worked. I have red hat 9.0 if that makes any difference..

advTHANKSance ...to whoever can help

You need to find nice, small window manager. You can look at fluxbox, blackbox, window maker...Choose one of them (and install). Then create .xinitrc file in your home directory. Put executable file running the window manager you've choosen inside.

Then test it (startx). The window manager should start. Now you can run Mozilla.

Is it possible to start X and have mozilla running and not a window manager because I have gnome and it works fine but I just wanted something that would run faster than it would with a window man. running with my slow machine. Thats why I tried X :1 mozilla.

Run xwmconfig to pick your default window manager, then just open mozilla from there.
