JDK, I'm already connected to the internet with my built in wireless network card, so I do know how to manage the wifi connection. I just wanna be able to connect with the 54GC and not my built in card.

Ok, so I'm not seeing the correct firmware. BUT... I noticed that you have two wireless interfaces - Which one is wlan1? I know that wlan0 is most likely the wireless card that you are using, but I just want to confirm the second one.

Is there a tutorial anywhere where I can learn how to install the firmware? Exactly what one do I need? I do have my USB54GC V.3 connected right now.. so is there a possibility that wlan1 is the 54GC? I assume that's what it is.

These forums are better than a tutorial..... And if you say that it "might" be it, have you tried common sense and unplugged your device, then ran iwconfig again and see if wlan1 disappeared? I hope that didn't sound too harsh, no intentions on making it sound like that....

Voila, there you go. Do the same with ifconfig -a just to be safe. After that, let me know how exactly you are trying to connect via your USB dongle. You might need to activate your device using ifup, or ifconfig, depending on the config.

ifconfig -a had the same result. I've plugged it in, tried to enable it, tried to install 100 different packages with dependency issues, installation issues, etc. I read up on it a lot but never got anywhere. I really didnt know what I was doing so I came straight to the source. I would like to be able to disable my built in card, connect to my network wirelessly through the usb dongle, then put the dongle into monitor mode.

Compat-wireless is a collection of the most up to date wireless drivers for older kernels, among also newer kernels too. I use it because the drivers I use that include monitor mode, and supporting packet injection, are within the package. You would need to go to the compat-wireless web site and find the correct tarball for your kernel. I would look for you, but I'm at work and can't access their site.

Is your firmware still an issue or has that been resolved? If you need it, it should be installed like any other package.

still an issue, I'm not quite sure where to find reliable linux files yet etc (still learning). And I appreciate it Corp. I'll keep looking for the right place to go to download compat-wireless, but im afraid I'll do the wrong kernel, doesnt mean I can't try though. Whenever you guys get a chance, I really appreciate all the help.
