WUSB54GC V.3 trouble...
I'm fairly new to linux and I'm having trouble installing the driver and getting the 54GC to work properly.. Here's the code being displayed, i just keep going in a circle that i can't get out of..
when I try to install ndiswrapper i get this error.. root@bt:~# sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these: The following packages have unmet dependencies: ralink-rt73-source: Depends: debhelper (>= 4.0) but it is not going to be installed E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution). and when i try to install debhelper greater than 4.0.. i get the same unmet dependencies error, except it says that theres an html2text program that im missing.. and then when i try to install and update that.. it goes back to the raling-rt73-source dependency. I need help, bad. This is frustrating. Please help lol |
Hi and Welcome to LQ!
You don't tell us what distro you're using which makes helping you doubly hard. There is a Debian package called firmware-ralink. Here's a description Quote:
ciao, jdk |
How do i find the information you need?
All I'm trying to do is get this damn usb wireless card working so i can put it into monitor mode.. I can not get whatever i need installed for it to work on my computer. |
Hardware - I guess you'll know what kind of computer you have. As for what's under the bonnet, you can look at
Code:
lspci Code:
lshw Software Code:
cat /etc/issue jdk |
When I run lspci:
root@bt:~# lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Memory Controller Hub (rev 07) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) 00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 03) 00:1a.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 (rev 03) 00:1a.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #6 (rev 03) 00:1a.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 03) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 2 (rev 03) 00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 3 (rev 03) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 03) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 03) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 03) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev 93) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation ICH9M LPC Interface Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation ICH9M/M-E SATA AHCI Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 03) 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8057 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 10) 02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100 0b:03.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller (rev 05) 0b:03.1 SD Host controller: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 22) 0b:03.2 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter (rev 12) When I run lshw.. root@bt:~# lshw bt description: Notebook product: VGN-NW150J vendor: Sony Corporation version: C601QLJS (There's a lot more info, but i figured that's all you wanted for that one) And when I run sudo cat etc/issue root@bt:~# sudo cat /etc/issue BackTrack 5 R1 - Code Name Revolution 64 bit\n \l .. keep helping, i appreciate it! |
Can you also send the output of
Code:
lsusb Also please enclose you output inside of code tags. It makes it much more readable. Thanks, jdk |
sorry, i'll learn lol..
lsusb brings me this.. Code:
Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub |
Ok trobbins well done. Now we're ready to rock! Here's your wireless adapter:

Another question: was there any reason to be compiling rt73 and install ndiswrapper packages? Your wifi adapter seems to be supported by the rt2x00 module which is in the kernel. Isn't that correct? So I don't really understand why you were doing what you were doing as described in your first post. Finally, what kernel are you using? Post the output of Code:
uname -a jdk |
It is a RT2070L.. but I dont really know what I'm doing. I assumed the RT73 would work. I read a tutorial on it somewhere, I was obviously wrong. I thought I had to install it, but again i was wrong. If it is already installed, how do I turn it on and get it working?
uname -a Code:
Linux bt 2.6.39.4 #1 SMP Wed Aug 17 21:42:30 EDT 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux |
The driver should be in your kernel already. You may or may not have to install that ralink firmware package I mentioned earlier. You can see if the module is being loaded by running
Code:
lsmod ciao, jdk |
lsmod gives me this..
Code:
root@bt:~# lsmod If so, where do I get it? I'll browse for it to try and find it. UPDATE: Wasn't able to find the package |
It looks like the drivers are installed as you can see here:
Code:
mac80211 277511 4 rt2800lib,rt2x00usb,iwlagn,rt2x00lib |
Quote:
ciao, jdk |
Hello,
Can you post the output of the following commands for me? Thanks! Code:
ifconfig -a Josh |
To add to my last post - If you don't have rt2870.bin within your firmware directory, that may be your issue. You also might need to download the latest version of it - But that is why I am having you give me the output of those commands.
