WU-FTPD help

First, I know nothing about Linux but am very computer literate. I am using Webmin to make all of my changes.

Now for the question. I am using a Toshiba Magnia SG20 server that is running Redhat 7.3 and WU-FTPD 2.6.2 for the FTP server. I have no problem putting files into a directory using Webmin (except for large ones) and can FTP in anonymously to download them.

My problem is, I want to disable the Anonmymous FTP access (I did with no problems) and enable guest users so I can log in with password to get my files. I turned on guest access but when I try to log in, I am asked for a username and password. When I try all know server passwords, none of them work.

Can anyone please advise how I can get the guest access running?

Thanks.

Can you post a copy of your config file.

Personally I would recommend using vsftpd for extra security and speed.

Thanks but I did get it working by changing the user shells from bin/false to bin/bash. Are there any shells that only allow FTP access? I have little understanding of shells and I think bin/bash is more of an unrestriced access shell.

Thanks.

I can't really imagine that it would have had a difference. Try using another ftpserver like vsftpd or proftpd. It may be a bug in wu-ftpd.

guest on sg20

When you are accessing the sg20 folders directly the box will only give access to a user who matches the login info you setup when you add a user. In short your Windows user name has to match the user setup on the sg20. (So, if you login to Windows as a guest client, you should be able to access any guest privileges on the box.)
