wont connect to internet

Hello

Newbie here and I have a question. Installed mandrake 9.2. Just loaded it tried to connect to internet and wont connect. I have a firewall running dhcp. If i go to the "network and interent" I see that I am given an IP. but the interent access part shows not connected. Tried running the wizard , same problem. From the console i can ping 4.2.2.1 so I tought it was a dns problem. Entered a dns and I still cant browse. Weird thing is that i tried ifconfig and gave me command not found, tried going to /bin and the command is not there. I am missing something?? please help.

You have to be root to do this.

/sbin/ifconfig is the actual location

Your gateway and DNS are the IP of your firewall. Set both.

ifup eth0 and ifdown eth0 and grab a dhcp address. Then check your connection.

Sounds like zeroconf and drakconf are giving you trouble. Upgrade those packages if you haven't done so.
