wlan0 not found

I am using RH 9.0, linksys wpc 11, hostap drivers -- need to get it working with hostap drivers.

I go on the "managed" mode and have a device wlan0 associated with the AP
I cant do "dhclient" and get an ip automatically.
"ifup wlan0" says no device found.
so I assign a staic ip "ifconfig wlan0 10.6.9.65"
now I can ping 10.6.8.1
I run dhclient again to update my ip - i get a dhcpack from 10.6.8.7
but "/sbin/dhclient-script: configuration for wlan0 not found"
I cant get the default web page for AU wireless now.

I went and checked out the dhclient-script and it says it works with eth alias. I wanted to go ahead and make eth1 as an alias of wlan0 but could not find the correct way to do that.

The weired looking ips are the ones I work with.

help appreciatied
