--with-x option at configure script

Hello

Most of configure scripts i saw in my experience with source files have option
Code:
--with-x use the X Window System
when you run
Code:
./configure --help
and i never really figure out the meaning of that option...
I guess it has something to do with programs using X windows specific parameters or something ?

And does it have anything to do with xkb ?
In other words if I don't compile a program using --with-x option does that program still uses X System's keyboard layout (keycodes, maps, symbols, types, etc.) or theirs own (or someones else for that matter)?

Thanx

P.S. Hope you understand my bad english

I think that most programs which want to provide a graphical interface without X Window being available use ncurses. ncurses is a group of library routines that allow a program running on a terminal to create a simple GUI. If you look at man ncurses you will find a description of the functions that the ncurses library supports.
