wireless usb keyboard and mouse

before anybody tells me to do a search, i already have done and i cant find a thread/post that is relevant to my problem.

i've just recently installed kubuntu (as a duel boot option) and im a bit confused, as to why my usb wireless keyboard will not work when asked, "which OS i would like to boot" after the bios install.

yes the keyboard does work in the bios screen and when kubuntu loads up. just not during the "which OS to install" option. at the moment, to select the kubuntu OS install (as vista is the default OS), i have to use wired keyboard plugged into the ps2 connection. ok, some people might say "what is your problem then?". the thing is, i use the wireless keyboard on my lap and not on the computer table. and moving the wired keyboard to my lap (to make it more comfortable for me) and back again is a bit of a nightmare with the cable. also i don't want the wired keyboard where the wireless keyboard usually lives. and putting the wired keyboard round the back of the pc is not an option for me. as i don't have any room to put it. and having it there just to select the kubuntu OS is a bit pointless.

is there any way of getting around this?

thanks in advance for any suggestions or help that is given.

by the way, the make and model of my wireless keyboard is the "microsoft wireless mulimedia 1.1". and it only has a usb connection.

Check your bios and see if the legacy usb option is enabled. Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly where it will be, just check each section until you find it.

i had a look in my bios and i couldn't find the "legacy usb" option anywhere. i looked in every screen and option. but still no joy.

It may say usb controlled by os or by bios. It could say usb keyboard, or something to that effect. Depends on which motherboard or computer you have.

nope :( there is nothing like that in the bios. i've also had a look in the motherboards manual. and there is nothing in there referring to the usb in the bios.

my motherboard is a MSI K8T Neo2 and i built the pc myself.

The key that you use entering the BIOS setup , does it not
give the BIOS messages , one of the messages should be that it told you that you have a USB keyboard and mouse

Do you have an Integrated Peripherals section? That's where it's most likely to be. You may have to scroll down to make it appear.
