Connection...

I am using KDE on openSuse 12.1. The connection to my wired, wireless, or mobile broadband is handled by the program NetworkManager and the nm-applet from Gnome. NetworkManager is common to several linux distributions.

The applet appears as an icon on my screens panel and allows the opening or closing of a connection with a mouse click. Whatever is connected at shutdown is connected again when I boot the system.

I too have a wireless router and I ended up having to purchase a wireless adapter.
Once I plugged in the Linksys adapter and installed a driver for it my computer picked up the wireless signal from the
modem down the hall.

Belkin is another company that makes adapters too.

Hope this helps.
