wireless LAN problems, eth0
 

hello all.
well I've been trying to install internet wireless at home but I'm having lots of problems.

I have Mandriva 2006 with the 2.6.20 linux kernel, all necessary modules (if I'm not wrong) are installed.
For Wireless I have a SMCWBR14-G2, and for RJ45 cable a onboard AC'97 (something, sorry) and 'Ethernet controller: Linksys NC100 Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100 (rev 11)' (/sbin/lspci). For Internet I have a HUAWEI E220 USB modem.

What I realy would like to do was to make my own PC (with linux) as a server, so it was pluged to the Wireless Router and other Windows PC's would received by RJ45 and EEE 802.11.

There are a problem for now, I can't connect (even with crossover direct with a Windows PC, not even Windows nor Linux detect eachother), so I cann't even have Windows PC as server (I thoght it could be a way, unless I have E220 recognised by linux, actualy it is).

Well, for some hours ago, I was not only connecting with windows, I could even share the windows internet (by "kanguru" with the E220 modem), but Wireless not at all.
After some reboots, now I can't even connect with windows by crossover cable, I tryed to configure it for several times (sadly I only know how to do it by GUI) but I can't at all. Otherwise I can suft the internet if I link the E220 modem on Linux PC.

Could you help me please, I'm realy newbie with linux. I would like to know how can I configure the shared internet for windows by the wireless router. ;)

if you have a wireless router why are you trying to connect to the windows box via a crossover cable? Try and connect by cable to the wireless router (don't use your crossover, just a reg one), and see if you can get your internet working like that first.

then from what I've read about your wireless card it should work out of the box on most distributions. Check through dmesg, and see what interface its setting your card as.

Then you can use ifconfig to set it up.

no... sorry, the modem isn't RJ45 interface, it is USB... :s it's a "HUAWEI E220 USB modem"
