Try running the lspci command (see man lspci). It will give you a breakdown of the PCI devices in your machine, which might give a clue.
As I understand it, the issue isn't regarding the D-Link product itself, but how the part has been added to the architecture of your laptop/desktop - it is possible to connect PCI devices from different busses via a bridge device, (or something like that!) but that's only one way of laying out the devices in the system.
A "bridge" in this context may mean a Cardbus bridge (for PCMCIA cards)... but now I'm really starting to guess :-)
